James Elliott

James R. “Jim” Elliott, 74, of rural Brookston, died Mon.-Jan. 25, 2016 at 7:57am, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He had been ill for the past two weeks. He was born Nov. 7, 1941 in Logansport, to the late Robert & Loraine Winslow Elliott. His marriage was to Amy L. Thornton, in Logansport, on Oct. 25, 1972, and she survives. He was a 1960 graduate of Delphi High School, and served in the U.S. Army, and the Army Reserves. For over 50 years he has been involved with the training of Thoroughbred Race Horses at his facility, Elliott Farms Training Center. He has traveled all over the United States training horses at various race tracks, and prestigious horse races. He was Indiana Governor Appointed to the Breed & Development Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association. He enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts football team, and Purdue University Athletics. He dearly loved his family and grandchildren, and all of the time they spent together. Surviving: wife-Amy L. Elliott of Brookston; daughter-Michelle L. Elliott of Ocala, FL; son-Jason R. Elliott & Jamie Stodgell of Brookston; sister-Nancy Dornan of Atlanta, GA; brother-Charles & Rebecca Elliott of Lawrenceville, GA; 3 grandchildren: Michael J. Elliott, Carleigh M. Elliott, & Emma C. Elliott. Preceded in death by a brother in law-James M. Dornan. Services: Friends may call Sunday from 1pm until his funeral service at 3pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Rev. R.I.P. Jim.  You were our Class of '60 Fonzie.  Who would have ever thought that the pinball wizzard of Sachy Snack Shack would have ended up distinguishing himself in the world of horseracing?
