Carl Shockley

Carl E. Shockley, 63, of Frankfort, died at his residence Nov. 1 at 7:40 p.m. He had been in ill health since the end of July.

He was born July 15, 1943 in Pittsburg, to John and Mildred Fair Shockley. He was married to Betty Joann Hughes in Delphi on July 17, 1964, and she survives.

Mr. Shockley was a 1961 Delphi High School graduate and served for six years in the Indiana National Guard. He worked for 30 years at Alcoa in Lafayette, retiring in 1996.

He and his wife were also foster parents for 25 years, and had contact with over 75 children.

He enjoyed bowling, horseshoe pitching, euchre card games, camping, woodworking, and wintering for seven years in Tucson, Ariz.

Also surviving are two sons, James Shockley (wife: Suzanne) of Jeffersonville and Jerry Shockley (wife: Tracy) of West Middleton; two daughters, Sherry Kindle of Frankfort and Jennifer Wilson (husband: Ronald) of Indianapolis; four sisters, Maxine Stigers and Mary Blake, both of Lafayette, Ida Lane (husband: Art) of Delphi and Betty Brass of Redding, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Preceding him in death were two daughters, Kathy and Marsha; two brothers and one sister.
