Ronald Slavens

Ronald Slavens, 73, of Idaville, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. He was born on July 10, 1943, in Lafayette, he was preceded in death by parents Roy and Hazel Slavens and infant children Matthew Kent and Diana Renee Slavens.

Ron is survived by Carmen, his wife of 44 years; sons Joshua and Nathan (Courtney)Slavens, grandchildren, Celica (fiancé David), Erika Rose, Jerrin and soon expected great grandson, Also surviving are, brother, Dean (Jan) Slavens, niceces, Tammy and Sonya, great niece, Tia, great nephews, Brent, Bradley and Eric along with aunts and dear cousins.

Ron be farming at age of 16, was a graduated from Delphi High School in 1961, Ron graduated from Manchester University, receiving his degrees in accounting and economics.

With pride he served in the United States Military. Ron was a charter member of the Indianapolis Price Waterhouse office. Returning to Carroll County in 1974, he fulfilled his passion for farming until his death.

Ron and Carmen thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of farming, especially the cow/ calf heard.

He was a member of Lockport Church, Ron taught high school and college- age Sunday school classes and was head usher for many years until his health no longer allowed.

Ron was a 4-H leader for 20 years, Twin Lakes School Board Member, served on the Carroll County Farm Bureau Co-op Board, Countrymark Board, Lake o’ Lakes Board of Directors as well as the Carroll County Council, 2006-2010 and as a Carroll County Commissioner, 2011-2012.

Ron especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching the Boston Red Sox and attending Purdue Women’s basketball games.

At his request, arrangements by Genda Funeral Home, Reinke Chapel, services are private.
