Frederick E. Franz Jr., 62, of Lafayette, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill.

Born Dec. 31, 1945, in Logansport, he was the son of Gertrude "Bonnie" Youst Franz of Titusville, Fla., and the late Frederick Franz Sr.

He married Dora C. Collins on Nov. 28, 1981, in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mr. Franz was a substance abuse counselor in Lafayette from 1988 to 2005. He drove for City Cab for a year.

He was a Navy veteran and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended St. James Lutheran Church.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, music and sports. He was a fan of NASCAR.

Surviving with his wife and mother are his stepchildren, Edward Cain (wife: Debbie) of Otterbein, Robert E. Cain and Linda Winger, both of Rossville, and Brenda Cain of Lafayette; and two brothers, Charles Franz of Titusville and John Franz (wife: Beth) of Niceville, Fla.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, with service there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Zachary Rainey will officiate. Interment, Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
