James Whistler

James C. Whistler, 79, of Lafayette passed away on May 25, 2025 at Franciscan Health. He was born in Logansport, Indiana on October 10, 1945 to the late Carlyle Edward and Dorothea E. (Garrison) Whistler.

James was a 1963 graduate of Delphi High School. His marriage was to Betty Jeannette Webb in Shepardsville, Kentucky on October 8, 1986.

He was a US Naval Veteran, serving from 1963-1967. At one time he was aboard the USNS Geiger Troop Transport Ship. His duties included, Chaplain’s Assistant, ships newspaper and the brig. James was also stationed in Keyport, Washington Naval Base, where they manufacture and test torpedoes. While in Washington, he was also involved with Naval Intelligence, was head of the mail room and was the chauffeur to the base Commander. After his naval duty, he was employed at Eli Lilly-Tippecanoe Labs since March of 1970. He worked in the Lab Compliance Group. James was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He was a former member of the Delphi American Legion Post #75 and former member of the Eagles Lodge in Lafayette. James enjoyed bowling, fishing, archery, playing video games and going to town.

James is survived by his four sons; James A. Whistler of Little Rock, AR, Sean M. Whistler of Lafayette, Christian R. (Erica) Whistler of Lafayette and Kiff Whistler of Lafayette; sisters, Madonna Whistler and Juanita Whistler; six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.
