James Hargraves - Class Of 1964

James Hargraves

James Lee Hargraves, 71, formerly of Delphi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at North Naples, Fla.

Born May 19, 1946, he was the son of the late Carl and Pauline Botts Hargraves. He was a 1964 graduate of Delphi High School and attended Fort Wayne Business School. He then moved to Bonita Springs, Fla., to help his parents run Hargraves Resort.

Jimmy owned and operated Thirsty Bear Liquor for several years and then managed the liquor department at Publix in North Naples, Fla., until his retirement due to health reasons.

Jimmy was a friend to all and in his earlier life he hosted many parties for all of his friends. The best “host” you could ask for.

He is survived by his partner of 40 years, Chuck Jobes; a dear friend, Bruce Stewart; two brothers, Charlie Hargraves of Renton, Wash.; and Bill Hargraves (Judy) of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

No services will be held per his request. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at a later date

James "Yak" Hargraves was my dear cousin. He was truly one of a kind & tho I didn't approve of his lifestyle I loved him dearly. His life partner Chuck is a really fine fellow & I consider him a good friend since 1978. I hadn't seen Yak for many years but wish I had. He was always up for a good time & had the Hargraves ability to make friends with complete strangers. He leaves behind many friends. I'm sure they will always rember that one of a kind laugh, it will always ring in my ears fondly. Yak leaves behind a big hole in this world. May God bless his memory. Stephen Schmidt class of "64
