Eugene Lane

Eugene LeRoy (Gene) Lane, 52, of Towaoc, Colo., formerly of Lafayette, drowned July 7, 1996, at Lake McPhee, House Creek Recreation Area, near Dolores, Colo.
  He was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Lafayette.  His marriage was to Maria Boughey, who survives.
  He was director of the Public Works Department for the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.  Projects he was working on included upgrading of buildings and homes on the reservation, installation of irrigation systems, and improvements at the Towaoc Cemetery.
  Interested in youth, he started summer youth programs including development of a baseball field and teams for about 200 children.
  Also surviving are one daughter, Julie Walck, and one son, Jerry Lane, both of Lafayette; a stepdaughter, Holly Boughey of Towaoc; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. (Shine) Lane and his paternal grandmother, Clova Lane, of Delphi; a brother, James Lane of Lafayette; three sisters, Nita Stickrod of Lafayette, Kathy Higgins of Logansport, and Bertie White of Delphi; and two grandchildren.
  Services and burial were Friday in Colorado.

Constance Riley (Rodenbarger) (1969)

I remember reading that Gene attempted to save somebody from drowning and he lost his life. Gene and his wife were good neighbors.
