Edward Joseph "Joe" Grimm, 66


Joe Grimm local business owner and musician/personality, passed away on Monday at 12:45 on April 28, 2014 at Signature Healthcare in Lafayette. Born in Lafayette on Aug. 29, 1947, he was the son of Edward R. “Jack” and Edna R. (LaVanway) Grimm who proceeded him in death.

He is survived by brothers: Karl R. Grimm of Concord, CA and Thomas A. Grimm (Cathy) of Greenwood; 4 nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Grimm (Lessie), Angela Zabinski (Pat), Joshua Grimm and Alyssa Grimm (fiancé: Brian); 2 great nieces and close friends: Ginger McCain of Delphi, Nicki McCain of Woodland Hills, CA, Toby & Brenda Sowers of N. Salem, IN, Tony Goin of Brookston and Judy Sherer of Lafayette. Along with his parents he was preceded by a half-brother, Doug Grimm.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of Delphi High School and Indiana Barber College. He owned and was a barber at The Grimm Trim Barber shop in West Lafayette for many years. Joe’s first love and passion was playing piano and keyboards. Joe performed with many national acts such as: Grand Funk, Jerry Lee Lewis, Danny and The Juniors, Martha and The Vandellas, Bobby Lewis, and many more as well as a USO tour that took him to Korea. He also played in many popular local bands including, Ezra, Legend Band, Bottoms Up, Country Rock Band and The Now and Then Band, but Joe may be best remembered locally for his Solo act; a “fiery in your face” one man band performing his own brand of blues and other crowd favorites that took him to may local venues. Joe also enjoyed using his incredible music talent playing for nursing homes and at the Old Soldiers Home where he made many friends.

Joe was also an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed cross-country riding as well as locally around town enjoying painting and drawing conceptual art.

Joe will be laid to rest with his parents in a private ceremony in the Masonic cemetery of Delphi with care entrusted to Davidson Funeral Home in Delphi.

There will be a memorial Celebration of Life & Music Jam provided by his musician friends that is being hosted by the friends of “The Tick Tock Tavern and Eatery” in Lafayette. There is another celebration planned at The Canal Park Center on a later date. The family is asking that donations in his memory be made to the Joe Grimm Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers at Davidson Funeral Home, 121 N. Union St., Delphi, IN 46923.

Hi to the Grimm family:

Joe will be sadly missed. He was a good friend and we had a lot of fun together.

I will miss you Joe. Rest in peace and may God be with your family. I am glad you are not suffering any more. Oh Captain, my Captain, there is a place for you in heaven please go on painting and playing your music.
