David Houser

David L. Houser was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away on June 18, 2021, at the age of 72 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, in Lafayette, surrounded by family.

David was born in Lafayette on July 20, 1948, to the late Alma E. Leslie and Fred W. Houser. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1966. Upon graduating high school, he practiced his civil liberty by joining the Indiana National Guard, where he served for 4 years.

Upon departing from the National Guard, David joined Alcoa in Lafayette. He retired in 2003 after 36 years of service.

David married Delores A. Johnson on October 21, 1967. They raised four wonderful children, Doug, Dustin, Jennifer, and Jeremy. Their favorite things to do included camping and landscaping. After years of raising beef and hogs, they sold their small farm and built a home in Delphi where Delores resided until her death September 10, 2001.

David married Kathy A. Witt, on March 23, 2002. They enjoyed traveling, bird watching and spending time out on the patio. They took numerous trips including to Hawaii and a cruise to Alaska. The past 9 winters was spent at their home in Florida where they were often seen riding bikes, playing cards, and drinking coffee on the deck.

Those who knew David described him as loving, hardworking, and determined.  A family man at his foundation, David was very passionate about farming, gardening, comparing his rainfall to others, and Christmas decorating.

David is survived by his wife, Kathy, and four children Doug Houser, Chicago, Illinois, Dustin Houser and Tammy Grandstaff, Delphi, Indiana, Jennifer (Jerry) Yoder, Goshen, Indiana, Jeremy (Kathy) Houser, Radnor, Indiana, daughter, Misty Johnson, Delphi, Indiana, and son Troy Lewis, Tampa, Florida. He was a proud grandfather to 25 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Don (Rhonda) Houser, Lafayette, Indiana, his brother-in-law Tom Ginn of Delphi, and numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Fred Houser, spouse Delores Houser, a grandson Joseph David Houser in 2000, and his sister Pat Ginn.  He dearly loved his entire family, and treated them all as his own, and loved to be together for the many gatherings they would share as a family. Services: visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be Friday at 11am at the Delphi United Methodist Church,1796 N. US 421 Delphi, Pastor Brad Burton and Rev. Todd Ladd will officiate. Burial will be at Paint Creek Cemetery, Camden. Carroll County Honor Guard will be providing Military Rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphi United Methodist Church for continued maintenance and upkeep of their prayer garden, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
