Ruby Stark (Spurgeon)

Violet Ruby (Stark) Spurgeon, 71, of Delphi, died at 8:10 p.m. Nov. 14, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born July 19, 1928, in Reynolds, she was the daughter of Alvin and Verna Young Stark. Mrs. Spurgeon worked at Globe Valve and then seven years at the A&P in Delphi, until it closed. She also worked at Essex Wire in Flora. Most recently, she worked for WSAL radio station as the Carroll County news reporter, broadcasting from the Carroll County Comet building in Delphi. She also worked part-time at the Carroll County Comet, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Spurgeon attended Rossville and Delphi schools. She was a member of the Delphi Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Missionary Society, and former board member. Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Ashcraft of Greenwood and Jacqueline Bard of Liberty Center; one son, William Dean Spurgeon of Lafayette; one sister, Irene Harrison of Logansport; two brothers; Glen Stark of Peru and Kenneth Stark of Columbia, S.C.; and three grandsons. Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Services were this morning at Horn-Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, with the Rev. Bill Breidenbaugh officiating. Burial was in the Zion Cemetery, Flora.
