Alberta “Bert” Thompson, 65, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, surrounded by her family at IU Health Arnett, Lafayette.

She was born May 25, 1950, in Lafayette, to Albert IV and Geraldine M. (Wamsher) Tharp. She was a 1968 graduate of Delphi Community High School.

Bert was a very loving and caring person. She never met a stranger.

Surviving are her partner of 13 years, Tonya Thompson; mother, Geraldine Tharp, Lafayette; sons, Shawn (Devona) Thompson, Lafayette, and Isaac (Carolyn) Thompson, Goshen; granddaughter, Kalyana Marie Thompson, Lafayette; sisters, Peggy (Liem Mosier) Ritchie and Linda Hood, both of Lafayette; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and sisters, Imogene and Debra.

Per Bert’s wishes cremation will take place and there will be no services. She wanted family and friends to remember her by the way she lived, not the way she passed away.

Tonya would like to thank the entire ICU staff at IU Health for the excellent care given to Bert during this difficult time.
