James Allen

DELPHI -- James W. "Jim" Allen Jr., 59, of 121 W. Summit St., died at 10:16 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at his residence. He had battled lung cancer since December 2009.

Born Oct. 7, 1951, in Lafayette, he was the son of Geneva "Betty" Zanger Allen of Delphi, and the late James W. Allen Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of Delphi High School and received his HVAC certification from Ivy Tech-Lafayette.

He married Peggy L. Pearson in Delphi, on July 16, 1983, and she survives.

Mr. Allen worked at the former Gerber Globe Valve Corp. in Delphi for 15 years, then for Hildebrandt Heating & Air in Delphi for 10 years, then becoming a partner in Flora, Allen, Arion Heating & Cooling, and Dry Cleaning in Delphi in 2005, retiring due to health in October 2009.

He and attended Radnor United Methodist Church and was in the Indiana National Guard for six years. He was an avid woodworker, and he and his family enjoyed camping and fishing.

Surviving with his wife and mother are two daughters, Kimberly N. Allen of Chicago, Ill., and Stefanie L. Allen, at home; a son, Bradly D. Allen of Delphi; and four sisters, Kathy Brooks (companion: Bob Brooks) of Delphi, Debra Allen of Plainfield, Ill., Levata Wilson (husband: Lenwood) of Houston, Texas, and Linda Weaver (husband: William) of Fishers.

Friends may call Sunday 3-7 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service there Monday 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. Burial at Camden Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Radnor United Methodist Church, envelopes available at the funeral home. Online
