Mark Johns

Mark Lewis Johns, 73, of Delphi, passed away Monday-Nov. 4, 2024, at 3:45am, peacefully, at his daughter’s home, after a brief battle with cancer. Mark was born on December 22, 1950, in Lafayette, to the late Charles & Mary Shepard Johns. He married Jalayne L. Perry, in Delphi, on December 29, 1977, and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2016. He attended Fort Union Military Academy from 1961 to 1965, in Virginia. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1969 and attended Vincennes University for 1 year. While living in the Delphi area, he farmed in Carroll County and worked for the Carroll County REMC. They moved to Harvard, Idaho, and lived there for a few years, then to Marana, AZ, where they made their home. He worked for Henkel & McCoy, an electrical contractor, and for Tucson Electric Power (TEP) for 17 years, lastly as a troubleshooter, and retired from there in 2017. He traveled back and forth from Marana to Delphi, to visit his family and friends for many years, but due to his declining health he has been living here with one of his daughters. While living in the West, between, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, & Arizonia, he and his family enjoyed camping in the mountains, and living there as well. He and a friend once canoed down the Yellowstone River in Montana & Wyoming. He especially liked to hike and camp in the Tortolita Mountain range in Arizonia. Mark enjoyed cooking for his family, especially Sonoran food. He loved to shoot and hunt, and always went to the Rodeo with his family and close friends. When he moved back to Delphi, he loved to go to weekend breakfast at Bull Shippers in Logansport with his friends. He dearly loved his family and the time they would all spend together. Surviving: daughter-Victoria & James Brooks of Post Falls, Idaho, daughter-Marcie & Doug Penn of Logansport, daughter-Samantha & John Garrison of Delphi, sister-Cherie & Steve Bruhn of West Lafayette, sister-Mary Beth Johns & her husband Ron Whitaker of Delphi. 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by 2 brothers William & Michael. Services: Visitation will be Friday from 11am until his funeral at 1pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Rev. Dan Gottschalk officiating. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions to Carroll Co. Cancer Association, envelopes available at the funeral home.
