Our Beloved Wanda P. Duff, 91, peacefully passed away August 29th at St. Elizabeth Assisted Living Healthcare Facility,
Delphi, In. As a beautiful, intelligent, loving and compassionate woman she has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, her friends and community. She was born March 28th, 1933, to the late Arlie Hughes and Lucile Wolf Hughes. In 1951 she graduated from Delphi High School. On July 1st, 1951, she married the love of her life,
William E. “Bill” Duff, who preceded her in death on January 25th, 2006. Wanda and Bill ran a farm and raised 4 boys:
Douglas L. “Doug” Duff (dec. 2024), William Randal “Randy” Duff (dec. 2020), Terry L. Duff and Edward D. “Eddie” Duff (dec. 1986). From there the family expanded to a present count of 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild. Wanda and Bill kindly hosted a foreign exchange student (Olaf from Norway). They lovingly accepted eventual “expanded” families and treated them as though they were their own. Wanda reluctantly stopped hanging Christmas stockings on the mantle when the number exceeded 70! Wanda’s greatest self-described joy was her family. She treasured large family gatherings and loved cooking and baking, especially her treasured pies. Wanda and Bill loved to travel. Their many adventures found them enjoying time in Hawaii, European countries, Mexico and anywhere the Boilermakers might be playing. Wanda’s service to the Delphi Methodist Church was paramount in her life. She and Bill helped co-found the Wesley Weds Sunday School Class in the 1950’s. Wesley Weds has over the years supported many ministries and charities. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and held many offices. She was a caring philanthropist, giving time, money, or whatever was needed for worthy causes. She was an avid “prayer warrior.” Another important facet of her life was service to our community. She was a long-time member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, holding many offices and participating in numerous projects. She was also a member of Delphi Business Women’s Club, Matron of Tipwa Grange and Vice Chairman of Carroll County Republicans. With her Republican party affiliations, she entertained numerous Indiana governors and senators as well as meeting several past US presidents. She was named Honorary Secretary of State, Honorary State Treasurer and Honorary State Auditor. She served as Carroll County Indiana Deputy Auditor and Auditor for 16 years. Subsequently she worked part-time as a law clerk in Ives Law Office for many years. Wanda and Bill avidly followed Purdue University football and basketball, many times traveling on the away game planes with the players. Wanda enjoyed other hobbies of reading, gardening, cooking and Carroll County 4-H. She attended the Carroll County 4-H Fair for a consecutive 84 years. Wanda was also preceded in death by 3 brothers (Merrill, Max, Ralph), a sister (Shirley) and a daughter-in-law (Chris Duff – Doug’s wife.) Wanda is survived by a son, Terry Duff (wife Terry Shoff), 2 other daughters-in-law (Marty Duff, Cheryl Morgan), 2 sisters-in-law (Connie Hughes and Pat Duff), and many loving nieces and nephews.
