William "Bill" Powell, 54, South Gate, California, died January 14, 1987.  He suffered a heart attack December 28.
   He was born October 20, 1932, to Russell and Dorothy Powell.  His marriage was to Ruth Basendorff on April 15, 1955, in California, and she survives.
   Mr. Powell lived in Delphi with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ott Shuey, and he graduated from Delphi High School in 1951.  He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, and lived in South Gate after his discharge.
  Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Debra, South Gate, Sandra and Janice of Idaho.  Also surviving is his mother Dorothy Rose of Lafayette.
   Services were held on Saturday in South Gate.
