Gardner Martin - Class Of 1930

  Funeral services for Gardner E. Martin, 50, of route 1, Camden, were held Saturday afternoon at the Gentry funeral home in Camden.  The Reverend Toby Rendleman of Delphi officiated and burial was made in Paint Creek cemetery, northeast of Camden.
  Death was attributed to a coronary heart attack which occurred Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 o'clock, while he was plowing soybeans on the Willard Campbell farm which he operates.
  When he failed to return home Wednesday night relative instituted a search and the body was discovered in a lane near the field where the tractor and cultivator were left after plowing about two rounds.  He had left for work about 6:30 Wednesday morning.
  Sheriff John Roth was notified at 3:05 a.m. Thursday and with Richard Eikenberry, coroner, investigated.  Martin's wife, who works at Sayco, at Flora, presumed that he had gone away for awhile when it rained in the late afternoon, but became concerned when he failed to return.
  Born June 23, 1912, at Camden, he was the son of Miles and Ruby Gardner Martin, of route 1, Camden.  His marriage September 28, 1935, at Vincennes, was to Loda Erb.
  He was graduated from Delphi High School in 1930 and attended Purdue University where he played a sousaphone in the Purdue Military Band.
  He was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran church, at Camden, a past master of Mt. Zion F & AM Lodge No. 211 of Camden; member Delphi Lodge No. 21 RAM; Tippecanoe Council 68 R&SM, Delphi Knights Templar; Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Indiana and National Rifle Associations, CIMCO 44, treasurer Paint Creek Cemetery Association, secretary and treasurer of Camden Rifle Club for many years and participated in completive target shooting throughout Indiana.
  He formerly served as president of the board of directors of Carroll County Farm Bureau Cooperative Association, president of the Carroll County Farm Management Association and also was a former member and chairman of the Carroll County School Reorganization committee.
  Surviving, with the widow, are: two daughters, Mrs. Joe Fouts II, of Marshfield, Wisconsin; Miss Patricia Martin, a student nurse at Methodist hospital, Indianapolis; two grandchildren; his parents; one brother, George, route 1, Camden; and one sister, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Burkle, 125 West Summit Street, Delphi.
