Lavaune Retherford (Million) - Class Of 1930 VIEW PROFILE

LaVaune R. Million, 95, formerly of Delphi, died at 4:50 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007, at Westminster Village, West Lafayette.

Born Sept. 9, 1912, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Edith Musselman Retherford. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1930. She attended Butler University for two years and then completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Manchester College, North Manchester.

On May 27, 1933, in Jeffersonville, she married Robert R. Million, who was president and manager of the Yeoman Telephone Company. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1971.

Mrs. Million taught elementary school for over 38 years with 36 of those years at the second grade level. She taught at the former elementary schools in Burrows, Pittsburg and Yeoman. She also taught at Twin Lakes schools before her retirement in 1978.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delphi, where she had served as an elder.

Mrs. Million was a member and past president of Psi Iota Xi sorority in Delphi, and past secretary of the Associate chapter of Psi Iota Xi. She was also a member of both Indiana and Carroll County Retired Teachers Associations and the American Retired Teachers Association.

She had been a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church, Carroll County Country Club, Rose Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Alpha Sigma Alpha college sorority at Butler.

She enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with her friends.

Surviving are a brother, David Retherford (wife: Mary E. "Betty" of Cape Coral, Fla.; a nephew, Gary Retherford of Denver, Colo.; and a niece, Nancy Ossman of Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a son, William R. "Bill" Million (Nov. 2, 1983).
