Margaret Rice (Sanderson) - Class Of 1930

Margaret K. Sanderson, 73, of Delphi, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1986, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette where she had been a patient since Nov. 15. She had been ill a short time. Born July 10, 1913, in Indianapolis, she was a daughter of Deane E. and Hazel F. Pogue Sanderson. Her marriage was to John W. Sanderson, on Sept. 29, 1935 in DeMotte. He preceded in death in 1967. Mrs. Sanderson was a 1930 graduate of Delphi High School. A member of Delphi United Church, site served on various boards of the church, was a former Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Love Circle of the church. She was a board member and memorial chairwoman for the Carroll County Cancer Association and a member of Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority. She was a former troop leader with the Brownies of the Girl Scouts and had been a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was employed at Oracle Press in Delphi from 1967 until her retirement in 1981. She was named Woman of the Year by Delphi Business and Professional Women in 1982. Surviving are a son, John Deane Sanderson, Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ginger) Smith, Attica and Marjorie Hutchinson, of Muncie; her mother, Hazel Rice, who made her home with Mrs. Sanderson; seven grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Services were held Monday in Delphi United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ellwood Smith and Rev. Donald Ashley of Heating. Burial was in Colburn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Carroll County Cancer Association; Delphi United Methodist Church or to St. Elizabeth Hospital Cancer Fund.
