Robert Ferrier - Class Of 1931

Robert A. Ferrier, 90, of Rockfield, died at 6:10 a.m. Jan. 19, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi.
  Born March 16, 1912, in Delphi, he was the son of John E. and Grace Chapman Ferrier.  He was married in 1941 to Mary Ruth Wasson, who died in 1942.  On June 20, 1947, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Guthrie, who died Feb. 4, 1980.  He was married on Jan. 23, 1982, in Rockfield to Mae Drake Brothers, who survives.
  Mr. Ferrier retired in 1978 as a field representative for the Indiana State Board of Tax Commissioners.
  He served as Carroll County Treasurer from 1960 to 1968.  He was formerly an excise police officer with the Indiana Alcoholic Beverage Commission for eight years, a Carroll County Deputy Sheriff, a detail finisher at Ryder Furniture Factory in Monticello for four years, a furniture finisher at Gravel Hill Furniture Co., for four years, and an employee of Alcoa Aluminum Plant in Lafayette.
  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of master sergeant.  He was head cook at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas.
  A 1931 graduate of Delphi High School, he attended Indiana University at Kokomo.
  Mr. Ferrier was past commander of American Legion Harry Bohannon Post 75 in Delphi and received the Legion's Dr. Crampton Award.  For many years he coordinated the Legion sponsored children's Christmas program.
  He was also a member and elder of the Rockfield Presbyterian Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, and 50-years member of Mount Olive Lodge in Delphi, and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.
  He was a descendent of one of the early settlers in Carroll County.
  He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, cooking, vacations, and the "Mill" farm.
  Also surviving are one son, James Ferrier of Towanda, Ill.; one daughter, Janet Gobel of Indianapolis; one stepdaughter, Judy Crowel of Adams Township; one brother, Ed Ferrier of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Gerald Stevens officiating.  Burial will be in Delphi Masonic Cemetery with military graveside rites.
  Memorials may be made to Rockfield Presbyterian Church or to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.
