Leroy Lane

R. Leroy “Shine” Lane, 79, of Delphi, died at 12:19 p.m. May 7, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He lived in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center since summer of 2002. Born in West Lebanon on Oct. 4, 1923, he was the son of Wilbur and Clova Ottinger Lane, and was a 1941 graduate of Delphi High School. He married Mary M. Johnson in Delphi on Jan. 19, 1943, and she died Feb. 26,1999. Mr. Lane worked for the former Kerlin Elevator in Delphi for 17 years, and hauled grain for other companies for several years before retiring. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He was a fan of NASCAR auto racing, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Indiana University sports. He was an avid reader. Surviving are a son, Jim Lane of Lafayette; three daughters, Nita Stickrod of Lafayette, Kathy Higgins of Logansport and Roberta Blue of Delphi; two sisters, Maxine Brewer of Monticello and Carol O’Farrell of Yeoman; two brothers, Robert Lane of Attica and Arthur Lane of Delphi; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother. Services were May 12 at Abbott Funeral Home.
