Wayne E. Rule

Wayne E. Rule, 93, of West Lafayette, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at IU Arnett Hospital.  He was born August 3, 1923 in Delphi to the late Alpha and Ruth Goslee Rule.  Wayne graduated from Delphi High School in 1941 and was in the Navy from 1944 to 1946.  While in the Navy he served in the Pacific Theater leading up to and including the invasion of Okinawa.   On April 2, 1944 he married Joan Sieber in Delphi and she survives.  Wayne farmed in the Delphi and Brookston area for 24 years then left farming and was a self-employed contractor retiring in 1986.  Wayne was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, John Purdue Club, American Legion Post 75 in Delphi and the Optimist Club of Brookston where he served as President for 2 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, traveling around the US, watching and attending Purdue football and men’s basketball games.  Surviving along with his wife is his son Michael W. Rule (wife Cheryl K.) of West Lafayette, grandchildren Brian Kelsey (wife Misty), Nicole Buskill (husband David), Scott Kelsey (wife Melissa), Jason Rule (wife Maggy), David Rule, great grandchildren Peyton, Emma, Aiden Kelsey, Owen Buskill and step great grandson Ethan Hagan.  Also surviving is a son-in-law Damon Kelsey of Lafayette.  Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter Janice M. Kelsey, granddaughter Allison M. Rule and a sister Carolyn Hurtt.  Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Rev David Comstock officiating.  Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Purdue Foundation for the John Purdue Club
