Velma Scowden (Davis)

Velma Ruth Davis, 82, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., died on Dec. 8, 2005, at North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Fla. Born in Tippecanoe County on June 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Noah C. and Bernice A Lefler Scowden. Her marriage was to Ernest Davis, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and loved and enjoyed her family, playing cards with her sisters and brothers, making fishing lures, traveling, reading and spending long summers home in Indiana. She was a resident in Deerfield Beach for 52 years. Surviving are three children, Duke Davis (wife: Lisa) of Delphi, Lana Weaver of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Cheri Marshall (husband: Jeff) of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; three stepchildren, Phyllis Moore (husband: Don) and Jim Davis (wife: June), both of Delphi and Dick Davis (wife: Wilma) of Indiana; four sisters, Irma Springer and Katherine (Kit) Rehwald, Dorothy McCormick of Delphi and Helen Michael; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Scowden and Richard (Rick) Scowden of Delphi; a sister-in-law. Judy Scowden; six beloved grandchildren. Chad Davis and Kim Raines (husband; John), both of Lafayette, Kendra Battle (husband: Brad) of King, N.C., Lauren DiMartino and Hillary Marshall, both of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Kyle Davis of Delphi; four great-grandchildren, Ronald, Matthew, Shantel and Cheyenne; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Davis was cherished by IO brothers and sisters: she was preceded in death by June Gaunter, Chet Scowden, Kenneth “Pete” Scowden and Charles “Chod” Scowden. She was adored by her family and will be truly missed. There will be a service celebrating her life in the summer of 2006, when Mrs. Davis goes home to Indiana for the last time.
