Robert L. Brown

Robert L. "Brownie" Brown, 89, of Burrows, died Wed-Dec. 4, 2013 at 1:20am, at IU Health Arnett Hospital-Laf. He was born Nov. 3, 1924 in Burrows, to the late Paul & Josphine Carney Brown. His marriage was to Quincine J. "Skeet" Downham in Logansport, on June 8, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2011. He was a 1942 graduate of Delphi High School, and a WW II Navy Veteran, in the South Pacific, on the USS Intrepid. He was wounded on Thanksgiving day in 1944, in a battle in the South Pacific. He farmed all of his life in Liberty Township, Carroll County, and drove a school bus for the Delphi Community School Corporation from 1957-1967. He was Fire Chief of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, Camden Masonic Lodge-1954, Indianapolis Scottish Rite-1965, Indianapolis Murat Shrine-1969. He belonged to the 40 & 8 of Lafayette, Delphi & Logansport American Legions, and the Logansport VFW. He enjoyed raising his ponies, and participating in many parades with them, his fishing trips to MN, and the many winters he and his wife spent in LaFerriah, TX. Surviving: daughters-Sharon & Chuck Everett of Flora; Nancy J. Anderson of Delphi, Tina & Jim Garrison of Delphi; son-Curt & Sue Brown of Delphi. 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a son Brian; son in law Charlie; a brother Ed. Services: Friends may call Friday 4-8pm at Abbott Funeral Home-Delphi. Service there Saturday 10am, Rev. Nord Zootman officiating.
