Doris Clawson (Cook) - Class Of 1942

Doris Clawson (Cook)

Doris (Clawson) Cook, 89, of West Lafayette, joined her loving God at 3:43 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013.

Born on October 12, 1924 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Russell F. and Esther (Weida) Clawson. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1942. Doris married Edward G. Cook on June 2, 1946 and he preceded her in death on December 8, 2012.

Doris and Ed lived and raised their family in West Lafayette. They also loved the Naples, Florida area and gradually retired there. Doris was a loving caregiver for Ed for many years following his debilitating stroke in 1987. She was a wonderful, caring and protective mother. She and Ed returned to West Lafayette in 2011 to be near her family. During the last several years of Doris' life, her children, particularly Jayne, were grateful to be able to provide loving care for Doris.

Doris loved reading mysteries and poetry, fishing, playing and watching golf, birdwatching, and mushroom hunting. She wrote many beautiful poems cherished by her family and friends.

Doris was the beloved mother of Edward D. (Lynn) Cook of Attica, Jayne S. Cook of West Lafayette and David R. Cook of West Lafayette. She is survived by three grandchildren, Karsten Cook, Edward Cook and David Diaz and six great grandchildren. She was also survived by her sister, V. Eileen Clawson of West Lafayette, who has since passed away on December 7, 2013. Additionally, two sisters, Helen Maxine Hathaway and Mary Lucille Fisher, and one great-grandchild, Olivia Diaz, preceded Doris in death.

A private family service was held at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette with entombment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette. Those wishing to honor Doris' memory are encouraged to donate generously this holiday season to the Salvation Army bell-ringers. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
