Marion Cornelius Hathaway

Marion C. Hathaway passed away on Sept. 12, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born to Earl and Hazel McClellan Hathaway and was one of 16 children. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1942 where he was an honor student and competed in track and basketball.
He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 and took part in the invasion of Normandy and later in the Pacific Theatre in the invasion of Okinawa.
He married Jane Olson in 1946 and they produced 5 children before their divorce.
Marion graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1949 and earned his Master's Degree in Social Work in 1952 from the University of Illinois. He supervised graduates of the Jane Addams School of Social Work until 1969 and then was hired as the Coordinator of Extraordinary Services for the Cooperative Association for Special Education from where he retired in 1989.
In 1982 Marion married Janet deRevey Dunn and moved to Flora, IN shortly thereafter. He was an avid bridge player, wood carver, reader and puzzle solver.
Surviving along with wife Janet are children, Cynthia Hathaway of Lake Geneve, IL, Greg of Lafayette, Anne Pettus (Theron) of Terre Haute, Peggy Belonger (Steven) of Rockford, IL and Peter of Terre Haute, step children Alison, Robert and Michael Dunn. Also sister Nellie Peters of Camden and brothers Orville Hathaway of Delphi and Wayne Hathaway of Kokomo.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters Thelma Peters, Lucille Geisler, Jessie Allen, Ruby Kempf, Edna Capper and Faye Eyestone. Brothers George, Russell, Donald, Thomas, Robert and Charles Richard Hathaway.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.
