George R. Hildebran

George Robert Hildebran, 92, Monticello (formerly of Brookston), passed away at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at the White Oak Health Campus of Monticello.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1925, in Cass County to the late Harry Otto and Heddi Ferne (Griffin) Hildebran. On July 12, 1947, he and Mary Alice Martin were married by the late Rev. Jim Ault at the home of her parents; she survives.
George attended Burrows grade school and graduated from Delphi High School in the class of 1942.
He served in the United States Army in World War II in the South Pacific.
George was a member of the VFW Post #2231 and the American Legion Post #81, both of Monticello.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda, Fla.
George farmed near Brookston for over 40 years before retiring and moving to Florida.
He enjoyed making wood crafts and also enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are wife, Mary Alice Hildebran, Monticello; daughters, Shirley (John) Conrad, Salem, Ill., Sandra (Larry) Anderson, Rochester, and Susan Roberts, Buffalo; two grandsons; four granddaughters; six great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and two step-great-grandsons.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Otto and Heddi Ferne (Griffin) Hildebran; two sisters; son-in-law, John Roberts; and one niece.
Visitation will be from noon - 2 p.m. Friday at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. Celebration of Life Service will be at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Josh Conley of the Kinmundy Christian Church of Salem, Ill., officiating.
Burial with Full Military Rites by the Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello will follow at the Hughes Cemetery in rural Monticello.
Memorials may be given to the wishes of the donor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
