Betty Jane McKinley (Cripe)

DELPHI -- Betty J. McKinley Cripe, 86, of Delphi, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. She had been in failing health and a resident there since April 2010.

She was born July 18, 1924 in Salem, to the late Clarence D. and Mary A. Wiseman McKinley.

Her marriage was to Loyal Cripe in Delphi, on Sept. 11, 1955, and he survives.

Mrs. Cripe was a 1942 graduate of Delphi High School and received her registered nurse, four-year degree from Indiana University School of Nursing. She worked for the late Dr. George Wagoner in Delphi and was an industrial nurse at the former Gerber-Globe Valve factory in Delphi.

She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa sorority and Carroll County Nurses Association. She enjoyed reading and working in flower gardens on the family farm.

Surviving with her husband are three sons, James "Jim" Cripe (wife: Nancy), and Kevin Cripe (wife: Kim), both of Delphi; and John Cripe (wife: Laura) of Downs, Ill.; a sister, Sarah Lewis of Rockford, Ill.; and a brother, Jim McKinley (wife: Sue) of Terre Haute.

Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister.

Friends may call Friday 5-8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service there 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions to Carroll Manor Home, envelopes available at the funeral home.
