Kenneth P. Newell - Class Of 1942

Kenneth P. "Kenny" Newell, 83, of Delphi, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008, at 4:50 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been a resident there since February.

He was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Delphi, to the late Earl and Maude Powell Newell. His marriage was to Marjorie J. Brown in Flora on Nov. 16, 1943. She preceded him in death Dec. 13, 2004.

Mr. Newell was a 1942 graduate of Delphi High School.

He farmed all his life in Deer Creek, Jackson and Monroe townships of Carroll County. His family farm was honored with the Indiana Hoosier Homestead Award.

He was a member of Flora First Brethren Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge #28 in Delphi, Lafayette Boat Club, and the Carroll County Grange and Conservation clubs. He was also an elected official to the Carroll County Advisory Board.

Mr. Newell enjoyed trap shooting, wintering in Arizona and euchre card games.

Surviving are a son, Richard Newell (wife: Donna) of Delphi; two daughters, Mary Ann Morris (husband: Eric) of Reynolds and Rebecca "Becky" Brown (husband: Gary) of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Dorothy Mills (husband: Bob) of Delphi and June Million Haase (husband: Don) of Monticello; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Newell was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian S. Newell.
