Mrs. Mary Austin Baum, 36 year old wife of University of Arizona Campus Policeman Robert E. Baum, was found dead on the kitchen floor of her home Tuesday morning of last week, according to word received here. According to Arizona newspapers, Mrs, Baum, 3626 East Frankfort Stravenue, Tuscan, Arizona, apparently shot herself in the chest with a 36 caliber pistol. The gun was lying on the floor about two feet from the victim when she was found by her husband. At Pima County Hospital she was pronounced dead. The body was taken to Palms Mortuary and Chapel where services were held Friday. Her mother, Mrs. Verlin Austin, 1 North Wilson Street, Delphi had been summoned on Monday prior to the death and was enroute by bus Tuesday when she received the word at St. Louis. She continued the trip by plane. Surviving with the husband and mother are two sons, ages 13 and 11; and a brother, Robert Austin, of Lafayette, who went to Arizona for final rites. The husband is the son of the late Robert and Margaret Baum, of Delphi. Mrs. Baum was a graduate of Delphi High School with the class of 1945 and was formerly employed with the Carroll County REMC.
