George W. Campbell

George William “Bill” Campbell, 61, of 116 West North Street, Delphi, departed this life at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 1988 in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been a patient since May 18. 1988. He had been seriously ill since his admission to the hospital. Born March 26, 1927, in Hillsboro. Indiana, he was the son of Manson K. Campbell and Helen Foxworthy. Bill had resided in Delphi since 1936. A 1945 graduate of Delphi High School, on June 18, 1949, he was married to Mary Ellen Clemens in Delphi and she survives. Following serving with the U.S. Air Force in world War II. Bill joined his father in the Heating and Sheet Metal business in Delphi. He and his father Manson, started the Culligan Soft Water business in Delphi and owned and operated that business until selling it in the early 1960s. Bill and Manson then owned and operated a Heating/Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal business until 1967. A member of the Sheetmetal Union Local 20 of Indianapolis. he then worked on many school and industrial construction projects throughout the state. Bill also farmed part time for the past 25 years. Bill was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church. Sheet metal Workers Union local 20 of Indianapolis and Lafayette. Wabash Valley Gun Collectors Association of which he was past president. National Rifle Association, Mount Olive Masonic Lodge in Delphi, Junto Club, and Delphi American Legion Post 75. Mr. Campbell was also a former Delphi City Councilman. Surviving are his wife, Mary Killen Campbell, who is librarian of the Hillcrest Elementary School in Delphi, one daughter, Mrs. Doug (Mary Anne) Miller of New Carlisle, Indiana, and two granddaughters. Services for Mr. George William "Bill” Campbell were held on Saturday June 11, 1988, at Horn Funeral Home Delphi, the Rev. Dr. Ellwood K. Smith officiated. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
