Bill Hayden

William S. Hayden, 79, of Lafayette, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born March 18, 1929, in Delphi, and was the son of the late James William and Emma Florence Welker Hayden. He graduated from Delphi High School.

He married Elma Laverne Chaney in 1978 in Lafayette.

Mr. Hayden was a service worker at Purdue University for more than 30 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, playing golf and watching Purdue sports and the Cubs.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Linda Taff of Monticello, Brenda Brooks (husband: Harry) of Reynolds, Tammy Baunach (husband: Ron) of Reynolds, and Lisa Woods (husband: Roger) of Winter Haven, Fla.; a son, Billy Dean Hayden (wife: Cecil) of Lafayette; two stepchildren, Pam Jennett (husband: Doug) of Fort Myers, Fla., and Rick Henson of Lafayette; and a brother, Edward Hayden (wife: Margaret) of Florida.

He is survived by 9 grandchildren, Billy Lee DeWitt of Reynolds, Shawn Hayden of Monticello, Joseph Taff of Lafayette, Billy Dean Hayden Jr. and Shane Hayden, both of Monticello, Jeremy and Brandy Baunach, both of Reynolds, Tonya Fair and Ashley Woods, both of Winter Haven, Fla.; 2 stepgrandchildren, Kelina Jennett of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kraig Jennett of Washington, D.C.; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers James and Louie Hayden.
