William Duff

William E. "Bill" Duff, 74 of 5151 W SR 18, Delphi, died at 2:28 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2006, at Home Hospital in Lafayette.
  He had been a patient there since Jan. 23, and had battled cancer for the past two years.
  Born in Carroll County on Dec. 3, 1930, he was the son of Raymond and Cora Fisher Duff.  He was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School.
  His marriage was to Wanda P. Hughes on July 1, 1951, in Delphi, and she survives.
  Mr. Duff farmed and raised hogs in Carroll County all of his life, starting while in high school.  He lived with 1/4 mile of the home where he grew up.
  He served in the Indiana National Guard for several years.
  As a young man, he participated in 4-H and FFA, in which he was an officer.  He had helped with state projects and was a member of the animal judging team.  While he was president of the FFA, the chapter was named to the top 12 in the country.
  As an adult, Mr. Duff assisted the Delphi FFA with their farm plot, and other projects for the chapter.  He served several years as 4-H leader and was chairman of the beef committee for many years.  He was inducted into the Carroll County Agriculture Hall of Fame.
  He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and boards, was lay leader, trustee chairman and finance chairman.
  Mr. Duff helped deliver meals on wheels through his church.  He served on the Delphi Community School Corporation Board of Trustees for 16 years and was president of the board for several.
  He was active in the Carroll County Republican Party, was elected as county commissioner, serving three terms, and was president of the commissioners most of his elected time.
  Mr. Duff was master of the former Tipwa Grange, and served as a state Grange Deputy, and was active, and a director for the Wabash Valley Outpatient services in Delphi for 14 years.
  He was the chairman of the 4-H building committee that built the new community building at the fair grounds.
  Mr. Duff was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Delphi, Carroll County Farm Bureau, Carroll County Pork Producers, John Purdue Club and Carroll County John Purdue Club.  He served on the Carroll County Superior Court Committee, Alcoholic Beverage Board and the Judges Public Defender Board.
  He enjoyed Purdue University men's sports.
  Surviving with his wife are three sons, Doug Duff (wife: Chris) of New Richmond, Randy Duff (wife: Marty) of Rantoul, Ill. and Terry Duff of Flora; a brother, Robert Duff (wife: Patricia) of Delphi; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Morgan of Delphi; special family friends, Tom and Michele Burlington of Gilbert, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by a son, Edward, and three brothers, Donald, Richard and Jimmy.
  Mr. Duff loved his family, and the community he was raised in.
  Services were Saturday at Abbott Funeral Home, with burial at Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.
  Memorials may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association or the Delphi United Methodist Church.
