Douglas Hatton

Douglas D. Hatton, age 83, of Bloomington and Stuart, Florida, died Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2014, at I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospice House after a brief battle with Lung Cancer. Born April 17, 1931 in Idaville, Indiana, he was the son of Harry and Ruth (Friday) Hatton. He was a graduate of the Butler University School of Pharmacy and owned and operated Hatton's Rexall, formerly on the eastside of the Bloomington square, ValuePlus Family Pharmacy on North College and Allcares Home Care. He later was involved in sales of medical equipment over a multi-state area. He enjoyed being a private airplane pilot and was an avid fisherman. During Mayor Hooker's administration, he served on the Bloomington Safety Board and Bloomington Park Board. He had served on the Salvation Army Board for many years. More currently, he did volunteer work in a hospital in Stuart, Florida and with the Bloomington Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Quiet Birdmen of Indiana!
, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #446 and American Legion Post #18, all in Bloomington. He enjoyed his Wednesday night steak nights with his airport buddies and his Steak 'n Shake morning coffee group.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Edwards) Hatton; his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Steve Fleenor; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Hatton; two grandsons, Justin and Wyatt Hatton, one step-grandson, Travis (Christina) Mechling and one great-granddaughter, Savanna Mechling, all of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Hatton.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St.
Memorial contributions may be given to I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospice House; Salvation Army or to the First United Methodist Church.
