Max Hughes

Max G. Hughes, 62, of Delphi, died at 10:40 p.m. Oct. 24, 1993, at Rt. 2, Delphi.
  Born May 3, 1931, in Rossville, he was the son of Arlie and Lucille Wolf Hughes.  At one time he was married to the former Melba Perkins.
  He had worked at Alcoa in Lafayette for 10 years and also was a rural mail carrier for the Delphi Post Office and was a Carroll County Farmer.  He owned the former Red Rock Tavern and Ben Tavern in Delphi for 20 years, retiring two years ago because of poor health.
  He was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School.  He served in the Indiana National Guard from 1951-53, in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict, and then served again in the National Guard until 1956.  He was a member of American Legion Post 75 and VFW Post 9383 at Delphi.
  Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Vaknin of Delphi and Joey Calloway of Lafayette; a son, Danny E. Hughes of Delphi; two brothers, Ralph Hughes of Rt. 1, Delphi, and Merrill Hughes of Monticello; two sisters, Wanda Duff of Rt. 4, Delphi, and Shirley Brummett of Brookston; and four grandchildren.
   Services were today at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Pettys officiating.  Burial was in Camden Cemetery with military rites by the Delphi American Legion.
