June Newell (Million-Haase)

June Eileen Million-Haase, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, December 20th, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family.

She was born on June 24th, 1931 in Deer Creek Twp., Carroll County to the late Earl Baum and Maude (Powell) Newell. She married William Patrick (Pat) Million on August 16th, 1949 in Lafayette, Indiana. Pat preceded her in death on June 12th, 1981. On August 10th, 2003 she married Rev. Donald Haase at the Oak Grove Christian Church in Carroll County. He preceded her in death on March 20th, 2017.

June was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School and was the valedictorian of her class. She was a homemaker and farm wife until her first husband, Pat, passed away. She then worked as a court recorder for Carroll County Superior Court until her retirement.

She was a life-long member of Oak Grove Christian Church until her second husband, Rev. Don Haase retired as the church pastor and they together transferred their church membership to Monticello Christian Church. She was active in CWF, a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Jolly Unison Home Econ. Club, and participated in the Grandparent’s Reading Program.

She enjoyed reading the Bible and attending church Bible studies. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family brought her great joy and she was proud of their accomplishments.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan P. (Dr. H. Vern) Smith; son-in-law, Art Crooks; grandchildren, Aimee (Chris) Grady, Jeremy Smith, Lindsey Smith, Kevin Smith, Jennifer (Aaron) Monastra, Jessica (Jim) Barbarich; great-grandchildren, Jake Grady, Brooke Grady, Bailey Monastra, Julianna Monastra, and William Smith, Nora Barbarich, Penelope Barbarich; stepchildren, Bruce (Lori) Haase, Alice (Bill) Cornett, Brian (Tracy) Haase; ten step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Mills.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Kay Crooks; brother, Kenneth Newell; sister-in-law, Marjorie Newell and brother-in-law, Bob Mills.

Private burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
