Joyce Darlene (Norris) Sheets, age 87, died peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Yeoman, Indiana, on June 23, 1932, to Wayne and Helen (Goslee) Norris, who preceded her in death.
Her older sister Marjorie and younger brother Michael also preceded her in death.
On October 1, 1955, she married Roy Thomas Sheets, who died December 9, 1980. They lived in San Pierre, Indiana, and raised two sons, Chuck (Michelle) Sheets of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and David (Susan) Sheets of Shelbyville, Indiana., who survive. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Emma Sheets, of Fort Wayne.
She was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School, and she worked at Carroll County REMC until the birth of her first son. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked in the dry goods department of Two Joes Store, the genealogy department of the North Judson Public Library, and the Starke County assessor's office.
Joyce was an organist, pianist, and choir member at St. Luke United Church of Christ in San Pierre. Additionally, she served as the secretary of St. Luke for many years. She had also been active in the San Pierre Parent Teacher Organization, San Pierre Cub Scouts, North Judson Sports Booster Club, and the San Pierre Women's Bowling League.
She loved arts and crafts in addition to her music. She was an excellent seamstress who made and altered men's, women's, and children's clothing in the area. Her gym bags, towel cakes, cloth wreaths, crocheted rugs, and life size dolls were sold around the state for many years.
Joyce moved to Fort Wayne when her failing eyesight made it impossible for her to live on her own. She continued some of her craft work in her assisted living facility, to the delight of both employees and residents. Many of her creations were sold in the facility gift shop.
Funeral services will be held at O'Donnell Funeral Home, North Judson, Indiana,
