Richard Reed Brown - Class Of 1950

Richard R. "Brownie" Brown, 91, of rural Monticello, passed away Saturday-October 8, 2022, at 6:00am, at his daughter's house near Camden. He had been living there while in ill health. He was born October 29, 1931, in rural Delphi, to the late William & Malinda Blocher Brown. His marriage was to Kay F. Rehwinkel in Delphi on November 26, 1955, and she survives. He was a 1950 graduate of Delphi High School where he was salutatorian of his class. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving 3 years on active duty and 3 years in the Indiana National Guard Army Reserves. He worked at Delphi Body Works for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic faith and had attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He enjoyed planting a big garden for all to share and enjoyed planting trees on his property. He was a natural mechanic and loved to tinker on anything. He would work on and paint cars and could fix anything. Neighbors and friends would bring him their broken vehicles or tractors, and he would always give freely of his time and talent to help them out. Very giving in nature, and never met a stranger. His family was his true love. He enjoyed having them all together for a cookout or any occasion. He dearly loved them all. Surviving: wife-Kay F. Brown of Monticello, son-Rick & Evelyn Brown of Delphi, daughter-Mindy & Ed Hanaway of Delphi, Daughter-Danelle & David Williams of Mulberry, son-Michael C. Brown of Buffalo, daughter-DeEtta & Mike Hartman of Camden, sisters Linda Red Elk of Camden, and Donna Bieghler of Delphi. 7 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a son in law Jeff Williams, step granddaughter Brittney Smith, 3 brothers Melvin, Ralph, & Orville. Services: Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be there Friday at 11am, with Deacon Michael Booth officiating. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Military Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions to the American Heart Assoc.
