Constance Macke (Barnett) - Class Of 1950

Constance “Connie” B. Barnett, 90, of rural Delphi, went to her heavenly home on April 21, 2022.

She was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Fred and Bernice Macke. She grew up in Elkhart, Ind., moving to Delphi as a freshman and graduated from Delphi High School. On Aug. 10, 1954, she married John L. Barnett.

Connie worked briefly at the Delphi Stone Quarry then focused her attention on raising her four girls and giving her time and talents to the community. She was known to many as the “Animal Lady” for the many years she took a variety of animals into the local nursing homes, kindergartens and Purple Turtle.

Connie enjoyed drawing and baking, as evident from many Christmas and birthday cards along with baked goods that friends, family and random service members received. Flowers and wildlife were her other loves, apparent in the many gardens at her home and the multiple baby deer she rescued.

She was an active member of St Joseph Catholic Church of Delphi.

Surviving are her daughters, Reine Barnett of Lafayette, Annett McWilliams of Louisville, Ky., and Celia Tharp (Mike) of Delphi; sisterin law, Ruth Hines (Glen) of Kokomo; and grandchildren, Brande, John, Ahmani, Marcus, Laura, Miranda, Devin and Molly.
