In Memory

Sharon Hanna (O'Farrell) - Class Of 1952

Sharon Hanna (O'Farrell)

Sharon Louise O’Farrell was born June 27, 1934, to the late Ralph E. and Mary Louise (Gerard) Hanna in Indianapolis, IN. She was a 1952 graduate of Delphi High School and later graduated from Indiana University, with a degree in theater and journalism. After graduating, one of her beloved memories was spending the summer waiting table at Lake Tahoe with her best friend Sharon Heyes.

Before getting married Sharon lived for a time in New York City working as a switchboard operator at NBC and then as a secretary for Nobel Prize winner Herbert C. Brown at Purdue University, of which she was quite proud.

She married James “Pat” O’Farrell on July 26, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2006.

Throughout her life she participated in civic theater. As a natural storyteller, Sharon enjoyed portraying different characters and being part of the theater community.

Family was the biggest part of Sharon’s life. She loved being surrounded by family as well as supporting them. She spent many days and nights in the field helping move vehicles and providing meals. She was always in the stands to cheer on her grandchildren. Her grandchildren can all attest that a day with grandma was filled with excitement – whether it was collecting rocks, running around the antique store, helping with a menagerie of animals (cats, dogs, pigs), or a trip to the Sandwich Shop or putt-putt golf course for a milkshake.

Sharon enjoyed rock collecting, acting in several area civic theaters and loved antiquing.

She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Tim) Strasser and Tara (Dan) Shanks both of Camden; Kyle (Tonya) O’Farrell of Delphi and daughter-in-law, Kathi O’Farrell of Monticello; grandchildren: David (Lyndsay) Strasser, Sara Strasser, Hannah Strasser, Nolan (Erica) O’Farrell, Nathan O’Farrell, Adam (Lauren) Shanks, Katelyn (Mason) O’Farrell Fischer & Ryan O’Farrell and great grandchildren: Lyberty Williams and Caroline Strasser.

Along with her husband, Pat she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin O’Farrell, and younger brother, Gerald “Jerry” Hanna.
