Helen Hickman (Cochran)

Helen E. (Hickman) Cochran 83 of West Lafayette passed away on Saturday July 15, 2017 at The Springs at Lafayette, surrounded by her family. Born April 26, 1934 in Delphi, IN to the late John M. and Madge A. (Pontney) Hickman.  On September26,1956 she married Eugene A. Cochran and he preceded her in death May 11,2012.


She graduated from St Elizabeth School of Nursing becoming an RN after passing the state boards and started her nursing career working at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Then she moved to Brook, IN where she worked in the office of Dr. Arthur Schoonveld MD and Dr. Harold Johnson MD. Following that she worked part time at the White County Hospital.  Her greatest joy was working for the Rensselaer Home Care and later for Lafayette Home Care where she provided healthcare to patients in the surrounding rural communities. She loved driving the hundreds of miles she put in each week and the friendships she developed with each of her patients.

Outside of work Helen enjoyed reading, going to garage sales, shopping at the Goodwill Store, the companionship of her Scottish terrier Lady, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her four loving children Mark (Barbara) Cochran of Lafayette, Lisa (Thomas) Wright of West Lafayette, Lori (Christopher) Bryant of West Lafayette and Matthew (Dawn) Cochran of Boswell. Also surviving are grandchildren Bethany and Whitney Wright, Megan (Tyler) Cotterman, Robert (Claire) Cochran, Nathan and Marissa Bryant and her fiancé Jayden Fackelman, Claudia, Owen, Adric, and Carolyn Cochran. There are three great grandchildren Rhett, Ruby, and Rhennie Cochran, and her sister-in-law Doris Hickman who was thought of as a sister.

She was preceded in death by her brothers John M. and Leonard K. Hickman.

Donations may be made to the St Elizabeth Alumni Association of the St Elizabeth School of Nursing.

Graveside services are Wednesday July 19th at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens at 11 am with Pastor Dwight Monical officiating.

TMG Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
