Orville Slack, 89 of Anderson, passed away on June 26, 2023 at Autumn Wood Assisted Living in Tipton, Indiana. He was born on September 15, 1933 in Switzerland County, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by wife Carolyn DeShon Slack, parents Harry Melick Slack and Emza Scudder Slack., stepmother Gladys Slack and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by sisters Naomi Coy and Barb (Jack) Freels and brother Herbert Slack.
He is also survived by his sons and their spouses, Dennis (Esther) Slack, Darrell (Shelly) Slack, Douglas (Lori) Slack, eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Orville attended Delphi High School for 3 years and graduated from Frankfort Bible College, class of 1951. He served in the Army from 1953-1955. He was stationed in Newfoundland. He was a dedicated employee of 40 years at General Motors, Delco-Remy, Anderson, Indiana. Orville worked in several different Delco-Remy plants over the years and retired in 1993.
He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn DeShon for 65 years. For many years they wintered in Brooksville, Florida and developed many life-long friends over the years. They enjoyed traveling, family vacations to Florida and Gatlinburg, Tennessee and spoiling their grandchildren. Carolyn preceded him in Death in 2018.
Orville was a long-time member of Central Wesleyan Church in Anderson, where he served as board member, Sunday School member and teacher for the Willing Workers Sunday School class, choir member and usher. Orville was a faithful servant of the Lord and serving Central Wesleyan Church was a large part of his life.
His other passion was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a strong spiritual leader and Godly role model for his family. Orville Slack epitomized the word "patriarch". He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faithfulness. He also passed on his love of sports to his family, especially baseball.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 from 12-1 PM at Loose Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St. Anderson, Indiana. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 PM, Rev. Keith Hinton will be officiating.
Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park immediately following the service.
