Sherman Fife

 Sherman S. Fife, Jr., 66, of Monticello, died at 6 a.m. Aug. 23, 2001, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare, where he had been a patient for two weeks.
  Born March 23, 1935, in Delphi, he was the son of Sherman Sr. and Fannie Mae Ward Fife.  His marriage was to Rose T. Esposito on Aug. 4, 1957, in The Bronx, N.Y., and she survives.
  He was a semi driver for more than 38 years fro several different companies.  From 1984 to 1997 he drove for PRAX-AIR of Speedway, retiring in 1997.
  He was a 1953 graduate of Delphi High School.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, with a rank of SP-4, and was stationed at Fort Slocum Army Base, New Rochelle, N.Y.
  Mr. Fife was a member of the Monticello American Legion Post #81, Teamsters Union Local 807, Long Island, N.Y., and Local 135, Indianapolis.
  His hobbies were fishing and painting.
  Surviving are his wife, of Monticello, and one daughter, Mary Rose Fife of West Lafayette.  He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
  Funeral mass was Monday at St. Joseph Catholic, Delphi, with Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating. Burial was in Morning Heights Cemetery, Delphi, with military rites by Delphi American Legion Post 75.  Abbott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Association.
