Lester McDaniel

Lester E. McDaniel, 87 of Monticello, Indiana, went into eternal rest on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 4:45 p.m. at his residence with his friend Brenda by his side. 

Lester was born on January 31, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Leo Lester McDaniel and Viola Margaret (Whittlesey) McDaniel. They both preceded him in death.

On May 14, 1960, in Delphi, Indiana he married the love of his life Patricia L. Godfrey. She died on January 23, 2000.

Les had lived in the Monticello community since 1966.  He was a 1953 graduate of the Delphi High School of Delphi, Indiana and he also graduated from mortuary school of Indianapolis in 1954. After graduating from mortuary school Les, served his country proudly in the US Navy from October 1954 till August of 1962.  In 1966 Les started out as a Collection Officer at the former State & Savings Bank of Monticello, Indiana.  He had worked there for twenty plus years and retired on January 1, 1987, when he was Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Officer.  Les and his late wife also owned and operated Patti's Blossom Station for several years. 

Les is survived by cousins, Rose Howard of Franklin, Indiana, Betty Kelley of Franklin, Indiana, Carl Bryant of Kalamazoo, Michigan, brother-in-law, Robert M. & Virginia Godfrey of Ashland, Virginia, two nieces Bonnie James and Marlene James both of Florida, nephew Bruce James of Indianapolis, Indiana, good friend and companion, Brenda Wiseley of Monticello, Indiana.

Les was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia L. (Godfrey) McDaniel, father, Leo Lester McDaniel, mother, Viola Margaret (Whittlesey) James, Donald E. Farmer and stepfather, George W. James.

Graveside services with full military rites will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery with the Monticello Veteran Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 6368 E US 24, Monticello, Indiana 47960, C/O McDaniel family.
