Thomas (Tom) Smith of Lafayette, IN passed away on May 24, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1935, to the late John W. Smith and Jean (Jones) Smith Graham. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Graham, Sr.

He graduated from Delphi High School in 1953 Where he played basketball and baseball. He attended Ball State University for one year.

He married Virginia (Ginger) (Sanderson) Smith in Delphi, IN in 1957. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2010 at the age of 72. They had been married for 53 years.

He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1954. He retired in 1961 after 37 years of service. He enjoyed local fishing and out-of-state fishing trips with others from the military.

Surviving are his sons, Robert (Wife: Susan) Smith of Lafayette, IN and son John Smith of Lafayette, IN, sister-in-law Marge Hutchinson of Muncie, IN, brother-in-law John (Betty) Sanderson of Lafayette, IN. Other family are three grandchildren: Stacy (Husband: Kevin) Umlauf of Lafayette, IN. Megan Sweet (Husband: Lee) of Lafayette, IN and Michael (Wife: Erin) Smith. Also surviving 6 Great grandchildren, Henry, Hannah Umlauf of West Lafayette. Cadence and Bryson Sweet of Lafayette. Emily and Brooklyn Smith of Georgetown, IN.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and step-brother, Robert Graham Jr.

Burial will be on Friday May 29th at 1 pm at the Riverside Cemetery in Attica, IN.
