Jerry Boone - Class Of 1934

Charles Jerry Boone, Sr., 67, of Rt. 3, Delphi, died at 6:12 p.m. Friday in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis where he had been hospitalized for ten days.
  He was born September 7, 1915, in Carroll County, the son of Martin and Lucy Snyder Boone.  His marriage was December 18, 1956, in Delphi to Bernice May Kauffman and she survives.
  Boone was a retired Carroll County farmer and had operated and owned Boone's Excavating Service from 1959 to 1980, having dug graves for ten cemeteries in the Delphi area.  At one time, he owned and operated Jerry's Cabins and Trailers on State Road 25 east of Delphi.  He had also been employed at one time at Globe Valve at Delphi and Alcoa in Lafayette.
  He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 28 in Delphi, Moose Lodge, and a member and vice-president of the Wabash & Erie Canal Association.  Boone had also been very active as a leader with the Boy Scouts in Delphi.  Since his retirement, he has been very active in the fruit orchards around his home and he and his wife, Bernice, have traveled in every state in the United States.  They have also flown over the Arctic Circle.
  Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Charles Jerry Boone, Jr. of Hemet, California, and Daniel R. Boone, Sr. of Rt. 3, Delphi; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Donnabelle) McNally of Rt. 3, Delphi; two sisters, Josephine Snowberger of Lafayette, and Nellie Albaugh of Flora, six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three sisters.
  Services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Horn-Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, IOOF Lodge services were held Monday evening.
