Harold Newman - Class Of 1934

       Harold R. Newman, 71, Flora, died March 5, 1988, in St. Elizabeth's Healthcare Center, Lafayette.

      Born July 3, 1916, in Jefferson Township, Carroll County, he was a son of Earl and Lula Casad Newman.

      A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he received a Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars and the Defense Service Ribbon.  He had lived in Flora since 1976, having lived most of his life in Jefferson Township, Carroll County.  He was a 1934 graduate of Delphi High School.  Newman was a member of Hickory Grove United Church of Christ and attended Flora First Presbyterian Church.  He was a member of Delphi American Legion Post 75 and Lafayette Disabled American Veterans Post 27.

     Surviving are a brother, Fred J. Newman, Lafayette; and two nephews.

     Services were Monday at Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. John Siner officiating.  Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
