Zonabelle Smith (May) - Class Of 1934

Zonabelle May, 96, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Anthony Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lafayette.

She was born March 10, 1916, in Delphi to the late Ray and Opal (Mears) Smith. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1934.

Her marriage was to Glen May, in March of 1936, in Illinois. He preceded her in death in April of 2002.

After high school, Zonabelle graduated from Lafayette Beauty College and owned and operated the Beauty and Gift Salon in Delphi for 30 years.

She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

Zonabelle enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, gardening and she loved going to Florida in the winter.

Surviving is a daughter, Sandra Spear (husband: Tom) of West Lafayette; a sister, Ruby Martin, of Lafayette; and five grandchildren, Justin Woods, Jentry Spear, Shannon Faustich, Annie Hanas and Lara Smith.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, David May; two daughters, Rebecca May and Bette May Tully; four brothers; three sisters; and a granddaughter, Brianne.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Her funeral service will be held there at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6; interment to follow at Meadow Lake Cemetery of Wolcott.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Brookston Federated Church.
