Mabel Ashba (Brewer)

Mabel M. Brewer, 84, of Delphi, died at 5:10 a.m. April 19, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where she was admitted April 18. Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Tippecanoe County, she was the daughter of Ruel and Lelia Buck Ashba. She married Harold H. Brewer on May 19, 1935, in Delphi, and he died in 1979. Mrs. Brewer and her husband owned and operated the Sundae Castle from 1964 to 1974. She formerly was a clerk for the Selective Service office of Carroll County, from 1954 to 1964, and had worked in the Carroll County welfare office from 1952 until 1954. She was a 1933 graduate of Delphi High School. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Delphi and enjoyed flower gardening. Surviving are one son, Jack D. Brewer of Lafayette; a daughter, Janice Girton of Delphi; a sister, Helen Stockton of Delphi; a brother, Ivan R. Ashba of Nakomis, Fla.; four grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Horn Funeral Home with Pastor Toby Rendleman officiating. Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery,
