Miss Kathlyn Gilliam, age sixteen, a Junior In the Delphi high school, died Saturday morning at her home in Yeoman. She was taken ill the day after Christmas, and since that time has had the devoted care of her father, Ray Gilliam, and sister. Miss Laura Gilliam, a Senior in the local high school and president of the Sunshine society. Her mother died a number of years ago. Miss Irene was very popular with her fellow students. Her father Is postmaster at Yeoman and proprietor of a general store there. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Hickory Grove church with interment in tne adjoining cemetery. Manfred Gilliam of Delphi is the grandfather of Miss Gilliam. Kathlyn Irene Gilliam, daughter of Ray and Delia Gilliam, was born near Pittsburgh, in Carroll county, Indiana, May 23, 1916 and departed this life February 26, 1932, at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 3 days. Irene was preceded in death by her sister Dorotha May on July 21, 1919, and her mother on July 22, 1919. She leaves to mourn her loss, the father and one sister, Laura. In addition to the immediate family she leaves a host of school-mates and friends. Irene was a junior In the Delphi high school and had finished her first semester when stricken with illness which called her to the land that is fairer than day, a more beautiful place than any palace made with hands. During all of her illness, Irene’s thoughts constantly turned to her school and the associations formed there. She bore her intense physical suffering with a smile and bravery, only possible in one of God’s own children.
