Ethel Heiland (Benner)

Ethel M. Benner, 85, of Delphi, died at 8:30 p.m. June 26, 1999, at the Brethren Healthcare Center in Flora. Born Feb. 8, 1914, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of William W. and Effie Shaffer Heiland. Her marriage was on Dec. 2, 1933, in Logansport, to Roy E. Benner, who died in January 1963. She was a 1933 graduate of Delphi High School. Mrs. Benner retired as program clerk from the ASCS office in November 1980, after working there 25 years. She was a member of Burrows Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. She was past president of the Delphi Business A Professional Women’s Club and a member of Carroll Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Modern Mrs. Extension Homemakers Club; and Indiana Retired ASCS Association. Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting. Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Benner of Vincennes; a daughter, Joan Banning of West Lafayette; a brother, Capt. Charles Heiland of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, two sisters, and a brother. Services were Tuesday at Flora-Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, with Rev. Herb Wingard officiating. Burial was in Keeps Creek Cemetery, Cass County.
